Song Of The Week - Talking Heads - And She Was

Talking Heads have a strong connection with movies. Jonathan Demme directed them in one of the finest concert movies ever, Stop Making Sense. David Byrne got the bug and directed the Talking Heads concept album-movie-thingy True Stories a few years later. And the video for this particular song was directed by avant-garde American filmmaker Jim Blashfield, who also did good work for such luminaries as Paul Simon (Boy In The Bubble), Michael Jackson (Leave Me Alone), Peter Gabriel (Don’t Give Up), and Weird Al Yankovic!!! (Pancreas.)

Talking Heads were probably the least punk band to ever score it big out of CBGBs in the US punk-new wave explosion of the late ‘70s. They found their biggest success however in the mid ‘80s with the album Little Creatures, which spawned this little number and the even bigger Road To Nowhere. They split in ’91 and the only reason we’re running this song this week is – we miss them. Plus it rocks. Press play.
