You're A Mean One, Mr Cumberbatch
You know what was great about the 1966 cartoon version of Dr Suess’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas? Yes, Boris Karloff’s narration. Yes, Chuck Jones’ animation. But, perhaps more than anything, it’s running time. At a mere 26 minutes it was exactly enough to bring Suess’ short story to life and chuck in a memorable tune.
Ron Howard and Jim Carrey’s 2000 live action take on the tale was interminable, not helped by Carrey at his most annoying.
So what to expect from the upcoming all new animated take from Illumination (home of the dreaded Minions)? Well, our first thoughts are lots of padding and unnecessary backstory. But we’ll see. Sherlock Bandicoot voices the titular grump, and here’s a trailer -
