BAFTA Watch - PGA - And The Winner Is...
His film school classmates Alfonso Cuaron and Alejandro Inarritu already have their Oscars. Last night, Guillermo Del Toro came one step closer to making that group a Holy Trinity, having been anointed by the Producers Guild with their award for Outstanding Theatrical Motion Picture, for The Shape Of Water. Right now, Dunkirk looks sunk, Oscar-wise, but we’re still holding our for a pushback from the likes of Lady Bird or Three Billboards, after all the PGA (often a strong barometer of where Oscar is going to go) have got it wrong the last two years. Del Toro, who missed the ceremony to attend to his ailing father in Mexico, sent this message via his movie’s co-star Richard Jenkins -
“I would like to ask of you all to allow me then to dedicate a little moment and the honours of this night to both my father and my mother, to whom my infinite gratitude belongs, and in turn as a father to offer to my kids also, may they be free to pursue their dreams and fantasies and may they stand by my side when I fade away.”
Coco picked up best Animated Film and ape-fest Jane was named Best Documentary.
