BAFTA Watch - SAG Improve The Odds For Billboards - Three-fold
The people who vote in the SAG Awards, i.e. actors, make up the largest voting group in the Oscars – so it’s wise to listen to what they say. And last night, they said Three Billboards is the one to bet on. Martin McDonagh’s tragi-comedy took three major awards, cementing Frances McDormand’s place for Best Actress, and pushing Sam Rockwell ahead of early favourite Willem Dafoe in the Best Supporting category. It also took the all important ensemble cast award – often a precursor to a Best Picture win.
Elsewhere, Gary Oldman continued the inevitability of his run, and Alison Janney continues to pace ahead of Laurie Metcalfe. If the DGA favour Lady Bird we’ve got a three way race on our hands; if they don’t, it’s down to Billboards Vs Shape Of Water.
