And In Directing News Today...

Despite what looks like the relative failure of A Wrinkle In Time both commercially and critically, Ava DuVernay is getting back up on that big-budget horse and getting her superhero thing on. DuVernay has just been tapped to tackle DC’s The New Gods, based on the Jack Kirby books from the early ‘70s. Whether she can pull off that so far rare thing – making a decent DC movie – remains to be seen…

Meanwhile Amma Assante has lined up The Billion Dollar Spy. Based on the book by David E. Hoffman, it tells the story of a Russian scientist who rose to become a valuable asset to US intelligence during the latter days of the Cold War (the old one – not the new one)…

Although he hasn’t thrown his directing hat into the ring on this one yet, Ridley Scott, who’s new motto seems to be “No sleep till death!” is set to bring graphic novel Queen & Country to the screen, as producer. Ellen Page was formerly on board to play the lead of British secret agent Tara Chace, a role that will now likely be on the radars of every young actress in town…
