Song Of The Week - Bob Dylan - Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues
To celebrate the release of The Bootleg Series Vol. 12: The Cutting Edge 1965-1966 – and believe us this is very much something to celebrate – Damian Rodriguez has pieced together a new video for an alternative take of the masterful Just Like Tom Thumb’s Blues, from rare D A Pennebaker shot footage. Said footage comes from on and around Don’t Look Now, Pennebaker’s peerless on the road doc of Dylan touring Europe during this period. Given that those two years in question represent just about the greatest, most intense artistic revolution of just about anyone in pop music who wasn’t a Beatle, it’s easy to see why this new compilation is your essential purchase of this holiday season.
And the video even features a brief clip of Dylan’s famous “lost” car ride with John Lennon.
Pennebaker recently had this to say to Rolling Stone on the subject of his original ground-breaking movie - "People are always going to need Dylan. His way of saying, 'It's all fucked up, but I'll show you a way to get through it' — that will never go away. But most documentaries exist in order to capture a specific moment and then they move on. I wanted to make a film for the future, that wasn't just about 1965. And I think that's why it still works."
