Song Of The Week - The Beta Band - Dry The Rain
The Beta Band formed in Scotland in 1996. Their first EP released a year later featured what would turn out to be their finest song, Dry The Rain, (talk about peaking early) used to such memorable effect by John Cusack in High Fidelity. The fact that his record shop was called Championship Vinyl and their first EP was Championship Versions – mere coincidence.
Their record sleeves and later their videos were often the work of band member John Maclean, and, when the band disbanded in 2004 – they were always more acclaimed than they were big sellers – Maclean went on to make short films, including the BAFTA award winning Pitch Black Heist, with Michael Fassbender.
This week, he continues his collaboration with Mickey Fass in his debut feature, the really rather good Slow West. But as good as that movie is, Dry The Rain is just, simply better. Now hit “Play” already!
