Globes Upset The Awards Apple Cart - Bo Rap Wins Big

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association handed out their Globe-shaped gongs last night – and threw some serious unexpected spanners into the Awards Season works. Was anyone really expecting Bo Rap (as good as it is) to walk away with Best Drama? And for Rami Malek to beat Bradley and co to Best Drama Actor? Perhaps an even bigger surprise was the lack of traction for early fave A Star Is Born, leaving the night with just one award – Shallow taking Best Song. Elsewhere, Green Book surprised given it won Best Comedy Or Musical – when it’s neither. In fact, Green Book was the biggest winner of the night, with three (it also won for Marhershala Ali in Supporting and for Screenplay.)

Elsewhere, Olivia Colman was delighted to continue her Awards Season run with a win for Best Actress in a Comedy, but she is now clearly pitted against early field leader Glenn Close, who hasn’t been making much of a mark so far, but now has the Golden Globe for Best Actress-Drama. Roma is still clearly a player, taking Best Director and Best Foreign Film, and Christian Bale is on course for Best Actor after his worthy win for Vice. And Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse continued its run to beat out Pixar in the Animated category this year.
