Twas The Night Before Oscar Part 2 - Spirits Announce

Of course, the other thing that happens the night before Oscar is the Independent Spirit Awards, and last night Moonlight pulled off a feat that it’s unlikely to repeat at Uncle Oscars’ bash, winning Best Picture, Director, Screenplay, Cinematography, Editing and the all-rounder that is the Robert Altman Award. Both Mahershala Ali and Naomie Harris were missing from the Supporting categories which went to – respectively – Hell Or High Water’s Ben Foster, and Molly Shannon for Other People, the latter a deserving win for a film that has seen no other traction through the season. Casey Affleck picked up another Best Actor gong (got political – see below) whilst Isabelle Huppert continued to be something of a threat in the Best Actress race.

The other big winner was Robert Eggers who went home with Best First Feature and Best First Screenplay for The Witch. Full list below –
