La La Leading

With Awards season kicking into high gear, the Broadcast Film Critics Association's Critics Choice Awards have anointed La La Land the potential big winner with a whopping 12 nominations – Best Film, Actress, Actor, Director, Screenplay and various music noms included, with both Moonlight and, somewhat unexpectedly but welcome, Arrival, both with 10 apiece.

Other early fave Manchester By The Sea lands with 8 and Hacksaw Ridge does very nicely think you very much with 7, including a return to the fold nomination for Mel Gibson.

What with this and the National Board of Review the other day, it’s appears to be already clear who the runners and riders are going to be for the rest of the season, with La La, Manchester and Moonlight currently way out in front.

La La’s Damien Chazelle, Manchester’s Kenneth Lonergan and Moonlight’s Barry Jenkins all picked up two individual nominations apiece in the writing and directing categories, whilst Fences’ Denzel also did the double – for directing and acting this time. Good to see Sing Street’s Drive It Like You Stole It getting some love as well.
