Song Of The Week - Simon & Garfunkel - Baby Driver
Time to own up. A couple of years ago we were largely responsible for spreading the rumour that Edgar Wright’s then next film was going to be an adaptation of the Simon & Garfunkel song, Baby Driver. OK – we made it up, it was fake news. Wright had recently parted ways with Ant-Man and, quick to work damage control, the filmmaker had announced his next movie would be titled Baby Driver. That was all we knew about it. So we posited the notion that it would in fact be the tale of a young man – whose dad was a famed navy diver and part time bass player, and whose mother was a naval engineer, who himself had a fondness for cars and guns, and was prone to using somewhat strained racing metaphors to seduce young women when his folks were out. Sounds like a winner right?
But we made it up…and then The Guardian picked up on it and stated (without sourcing) that Wright’s next film was rumoured to be an adaptation of an old Simon & Garfunkel song – and it just went from there.
Well now that Wright has finally delivered his Baby Driver, we know that we were a little bit off, plot-wise. But it does feature the song in the film (you have to wait for it, but it’s soooo worth it) so we’re featuring it as Song Of The Week. (You even get the added bonus of At The Zoo to enjoy.)
Hit “Play” already. Damn!
(Oh and go and see Baby Driver – the movie that is.)
